“Understanding Meaning in ASL”
&
“Organizing Your Thoughts”
Presented by Dr. MJ Bienvenu
This year’s workshop presentation focuses on ASL semantics and discourse. We will learn about these topics through lecture, then continue on with plenty of hands-on activities. We will work on the meanings of signs and, “why a sign can go here, but not there!” It is important to understand how and why ASL organizes signs as it does. Semantics is the science or study of “meaning” in language. We will also work on how to organize our conversations, lectures, etc. by working on discourse. When we work on semantics we will still be working on discourse, and visa-versa!
